William Hopkins

William A. Hopkins, 85 of Evansville passed away on Tuesday, August 28, 2012 at Lakeland Regional Medical Center, St. Joseph, Michigan while on a visit with his son and daughter.

Following Bill’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be a private family gathering.

William “Bill” was born August 6, 1927 in Evansville the son of the late Willard and Katherine (Schaefer) Hopkins. Bill was an Evansville City Tennis Champion, graduate of Evansville College and a US Army veteran of WWII. In his working life, Bill was the Manager of Industrial Relations for International Steel in Evansville and Vice President of Human Resources for the Parent Company of Canteen Corporation in Chicago, Illinois. In his personal life, he enjoyed spending time with his family, making his famous barbeque, going to Ellis Park, having lunch and dinner with friends, and keeping a constant eye on the stock market.

Bill had a dry, quick wit and also a broad knowledge of life in general that made you want to hang on to every word he said. He was an invaluable resource for support and guidance to his wife and children. Because of this and so much more he will be missed by his family and friends every single day for the rest of our lives.

On October 11,1952 he married Sylvia (Nicky) Flittner. She survives along with two children - W. Chris (Kyla) Hopkins of Danville, Indiana and Laura (Randy) Coard of St. Joseph, Michigan; five grandchildren - Beau, Clint and Katrinia Hopkins, Jeff and Brian Coard; brother - John (Micheline) Hopkins and nephew John (Robin) Hopkins and family.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Vanderburgh Humane Society.
