Velma Tio

Velma Charlene Tio, 70, of Baroda passed away on Friday, August 17, 2012 at Sunset Shores Assisted Living in Benton Harbor.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM Friday, August 24, at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Bridgman with Father Arthur Howard as Celebrant. Burial will be in Ruggles Cemetery, Baroda. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be given to Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 3903 Lake Street, Bridgman, MI 49106.

Velma was born April 15, 1942 in Kentucky, the daughter of the late William Francis and Della (Chapla) Nutt. Velma married Alfred Tio II and they operated Tio’s restaurant in Baroda until his death in 1988. Velma continued running the restaurant where locals have enjoyed good food for over 30 years.

Survivors include her daughter - Charlene Dillen of Baroda;daughter-in-law - Joyce Tio of Baroda; 7 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; two sisters - Deborah Nutt of Grand Ledge, Michigan and Marlene (Charlie) Pitts of Alabama; brother - Bob (Stephanie) Walker; and many nieces and nephews.

Velma was also preceded in death by her son Alfred Tio III in 2011.
