Robert Lee Wolshlager, 64, of Benton Harbor passed away on Sunday, October 5, 2008 at Borgess Hospital, Kalamazoo.
Funeral services will be held 11 AM Thursday, October 9 at Lake Michigan Christian Center, Bridgman with Rev. Duane Anderson and Evangelist Dick McNees officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Bridgman. Friends may meet with the family from 5-8 PM Wednesday at Pike Funeral Home, Boyd Chapel, 9191 Red Arrow Hwy., Bridgman. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be given to the National Kidney Foundation.
Mr. Wolshlager was born April 11, 1944 in St. Joseph the son of the late Albert and Clara (Stewart) Wolshlager. Bob started the Waffle House of America in Watervliet in November 1977 and opened the second Waffle House of America in Lawrence in 1984. He had a kidney transplant from his brother, Larry, in 1974. On July 27, 1989 he married the former Glenna Lee Jones. During their retirement years, Bob and Glenna enjoyed owning the Frosty Boy of Watervliet. They spent their summers in Michigan and their winters in Matlacha, Florida. Bob was an active member of the Watervliet Lions Club, serving as President in 1996 and receiving Best Club Award and Lion of the Year Award in 1996. He was also a member of the Pine Island Elks Lodge in Florida since 2000 and also a member of the FOP Lodge in Coloma for many years.
Survivors include his wife of 19 years, Glenna; five children – Ronald Wolshlager of Panama City, Florida, Tamera Wolshlager of Watervliet, Robert (Joye) Wolshlager Jr. of Mahomet, Illinois, Barbara (David) Kirby of Eau Claire, and Julie (Terry) Carlson of Benton Harbor; nine grandchildren; one great grandson; and a brother, Walter (Diane) Wolshlager of Bridgman.
Bob was also preceded in death by two brothers – Larry Wolshlager in 1996, and Ronald Wolshlager in 1960.
