Robert Long, Sr

BRIDGMAN - Robert Dale Long, Sr., 84, of Bridgman passed away on Friday, April 30, 2010 at his home.

Funeral services will be held 10 AM Monday, May 3 at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church of Glendora, Buchanan with Rev. Thomas R. Brazinsky officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Bridgman. Friends may meet with the family on Sunday from 2-4 PM at Pike Funeral Home, Boyd Chapel, 9191 Red Arrow Hwy., Bridgman. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be given to Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church of Glendora.

Mr. Long was born February 1, 1926 in Three Oaks the son of the late Laurence and Fern (Most) Long. He served in the US Army during WWII. On August 20, 1949 he married the former Marie Freehling and she preceded him in death on December 24, 2008. In 1962, he and his wife started Long Distributing, which is still a successful and thriving business after almost 50 years. Bob was a lifelong member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church of Glendora where he served as the Chairman of the Building Committee during the construction of the current church. He enjoyed painting landscapes and teaching the grandkids to paint.

Survivors include two children – Robert (Kathy) Long, Jr. and Pamela (Rodger) Kelm all of Bridgman; six grandchildren – Chad (Nichole) Stewart, Stacey (Matt) Sprague, Kelsey Kelm, Jodie Long, Robert Long III, and Kari (Jeff) Bell; and five great grandchildren – Karsyn Stewart, Kaylee Sprague, Cooper Stewart, Maddi Williams, and Mason Bell.

Bob was also preceded in death by a sister, Leota Freehling in 2008.
