Richard Peter Zei, Jr.

Richard “Dick” P. Zei, Jr., age 76, passed away on January 29, 2025. Born on May 17, 1948, in Chicago, Illinois, Dick was the eldest of twelve siblings and a beloved figure to all who knew him.

Dick shared 55 wonderful years of marriage with his wife, Delcina “Dusty” Zei. Together, they raised six children: Richard, III (Julianne CeCe), Ailene (David) Schultz, Jean (George), Kristen (Joshua) Owen, Taylor (Christian) Luis, and their late son John “Jack”.

He was a proud grandfather to Brittney (Tori) DesOliver, Jordan (Alejandra) CeCe, Mason Benson, Kaily (Gavin) Trudelle, Haven (Jacob) Luis, Kate (Finch) DesLauries, Logan Luis, Vicky (Alan) DesLauries, Brayden Schultz, Wyatt Schultz, and William Schultz. His legacy also extends to his great-grandson Oliver CeCe, as well as another on the way.

Following in the footsteps of his grandfather and Uncle he had one of the toughest jobs out there as a dedicated member of Roofers Union Local 11 in Chicago for 50 years. Working on the smallest home to the tallest buildings in Chicago, he had a story for each one.

Dick retired in 1999 to Sawyer, MI, where he and Dusty owned Sawyer Laundromat and Video. You could always come in for a good conversation. Area kids would get penny candies for a job well done. Known for his generosity and warmth, Dick always had a pot of coffee on, room at his table or a place to sleep for anyone regardless of their similarities or differences. As you left his home you would be blessed with a “God Be with You” or “Vaya con Dios”

Dick’s larger-than-life personality left an indelible mark on everyone he encountered. His kindness and vibrant spirit will be deeply missed.

Preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Rita Zei and his youngest son, Jack.

A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
