Richard Martin Vonk

Richard Martin Vonk, 71 of Stevensville, passed away on Friday, June 7, 2024 at Corewell Health Grand Rapids, Butterworth surrounded by family.

A funeral service will be held 11 AM Wednesday, June 12, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 9650 Church Street, Bridgman, MI 49106. Friends may meet with the family from 5-7 PM Tuesday, June 11 at Pike Funeral and Cremation Services, Boyd Chapel, 9191 Red Arrow Hwy, Bridgman. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Bridgman. Memorial contributions may be made to Kalamazoo Christian Samaritan Fund, 2121 Stadium Drive, Kalamazoo MI 49008 or Bridgman Cares, 9964 Gast Road, Bridgman, MI 49106. Richard was born December 20, 1952 in Grand Rapids, MI the son of the late Henry and Vivian (Thomas) Vonk. On August 30, 1975 he married Sherry Wasko. Richard worked over 40 years at the D.C. Cook Nuclear Power Plant and retired in 2014.  He was on the Bridgman School Board for eight years and served as its president for two years. He enjoyed fishing on his Boston Whaler, hunting and spending time with his grandchildren and granddog, Benji. 

Survivors include his wife of 48 years Sherry; son: Jim (Amber) Vonk; daughter: Marci (Steve) Wark; grandchildren: Makenzie, Madison and Maxwell Vonk, Kendall and Kamryn Wark; sister: Shirley (Larry) Cole and a brother: David (Anne) Vonk.

Richard was also preceded in death by a sister, Sharon K. Vonk.
