Richard "Dick" Copeland, 91, of Bridgman, formerly of Grass Lake passed away peacefully on Wednesday December 13, 2023 at Woodland Terrace of Bridgman.
A memorial service will be held 11 am Saturday, April 20, 2024 at Pathway Global Methodist Church, 2950 Lakeview Avenue, St. Joseph. Friends may meet with the family from 10-11 am Saturday before the service and at a time of fellowship following the service. Final resting place will be Oakwood Cemetery, Grass Lake, MI. Dick was born on September 17, 1932 in Jackson, MI, the son of the late Wesley and Josephine (Soper) Copeland. After his graduation from Grass Lake High School in 1950, he served in the Air Force for 4 years. On December 29, 1951 he married Carol Jean Brown. She preceded him in death in 2015.
Dick and Carol lived and raised their family in Grass Lake until 1971, when they moved to Munster IN for 7 years. They came back to Michigan living in Southfield until 1994. After his working for Chrysler for almost 40 years, they retired to Fairfield Glade, Tennessee where they lived for 10 years. They really enjoyed their time there, making many new friends. In 2004 they moved to Benton Harbor, MI to be closer to their family. Dick and Carol loved spending time with their grandchildren and great grandchildren. Dick moved into Woodland Terrace in 2016. In 2018 he was lucky to find love and companionship with Joy Ables. He and Joy felt fortunate to be together during Covid. Dick commented often that he was amazed and grateful that he had had two special ladies in his life, Carol and Joy.
Survivors include Joy Ables, Susan (Rodney) Young, Kathy (Greg) Hoos, Melissa (Thomas) Melgar, Nicole (Kyle) Brasier, Chris (Jill) Hoos, Sean (Sarah) Hoos, Kyle (Ashlee) Hoos, Jeremy (Palmer) Copeland, Jeffrey (Amanda) Copeland, Philip (Reneta) Copeland; and 16 great grandchildren.
Dick was preceded in death by a daughter: Lynne Copeland; son James (Jim) Copeland; Daughter-in-law Judith Copeland; and two siblings Donald (Thelma) Copeland and Gerald Copeland.
Arrangements are entrusted to Pike Funeral and Cremation Services, The Boyd Chapel, 9191 Red Arrow Hwy, Bridgman.
