Reverend Ralph Clarence Unruh, 89, of Sawyer passed away on Monday, June 26, 2017 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Funeral Services will be held 11 AM Thursday, June 29, 2017 at The Boyd Chapel of Pike Funeral and Cremation Services, 9191 Red Arrow Highway, Bridgman, MI 49106. Friends may meet with the family from 10 - 11 AM prior to the service at the funeral home. Ralph was born September 16, 1927 in Baroda, the son of the late Edward and Frances (Kunde) Unruh. Ralph married Bette Louise Sams on June 23, 1951 and she preceded him in death on February 2, 2017. Pastor Unruh received degrees from Moody Bible Institute and Wheaton College and a Master of Divinity from McCormick Theological Seminary. In 1967 he served as a chaplain for a group of doctors and medical providers as they traveled into the interior of Honduras. Over the years he served in three UCC churches: First Congregational Church in Sawyer, Smith Memorial Congregational Church in Grand Rapids, and 1st Congregational Church in Jamestown, NY.
Survivors include his children: Debra Unruh, Marta Unruh and Craig Unruh; grandchildren: Sue, Shawn, Julian and Briana; sisters: Norma Walden, Eleanor (Bob) Bell and Joyce (Bill) Clark.
Ralph was also preceded in death by his daughter-in-law: Barbara Unruh; a sister: Gladys (Don) Witkowski and a brother: Donald Unruh.
