Paul Newman, 86, of Buchanan passed away on Saturday, July 18, 2009 at his home.
Funeral services will be held 11 AM Wednesday, July 22, at Pike Funeral Home, Boyd Chapel, 9191 Red Arrow Hwy., Bridgman with Rev. Gerald Schroer officiating. Burial will be in Weesaw Township Cemetery, Glendora. Friends may meet with the family from 6-8 PM Tuesday at the funeral home. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be given to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.

Paul was born October 6, 1922 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada the son of the late August and Mary (Krieger) Newman. He served in the US Army during WWII. On July 19, 1947 he married the former Elaine Heimbuch. Paul was a Real Estate Broker for 35 years. He served on the Benton Harbor City Commission for two terms and also served on as a County Commissioner for Berrien County and was a member of the building committee when the new courthouse was built on the river in St. Joseph. Paul was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Stevensville. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Elaine; one son, Paul J. (Donna) Newman of Buchanan; two daughters – Susan Timm of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin and Carol (Ron) Johnson of South Bend; six grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and one brother, Ruben Newman of Stevensville.

Paul was preceded in death by a son, Philip Newman, on January 25, 2007; two brothers – Leonard Newman and John Newman; and two sisters – Helen Troike and Madline Reiman.
