Norman Kent Ketchman Sr., 77, of Stevensville passed away on February 11, 2011 at Lakeland Regional Medical Center in St. Joseph, MI.

A Funeral service will be held 11 AM Wednesday, February 16, 2011 at Lakeside Family Church, 6999 Red Arrow Highway, Stevensville, MI with Reverend Christopher Peddie officiating. Friends may meet with the family on Tuesday from 6-8 PM at Pike Funeral Home, Boyd Chapel, 9191 Red Arrow Hwy., Bridgman. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be given to American Cancer Society.

Norman was born November 23, 1933 in Charlevoix, MI, the son of the late Louis and Kathleen (Mcall) Ketchman. On September 9, 1953, he married Joyce Hardy. He was a pioneer in the commercial oil-field business working as a deep sea off-shore diver. In 1962 he set a world record by diving to 285 ft. in the Gulf of Mexico. In January 2009 he was inducted into the Diver’s Hall of Fame in New Orleans.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Joyce; his children - Denise (Mark) Kamp of Belmont, MI, Julie (Don) Ketchman-Schiele of Rockford, MI, Renee (Gary) Harris of Coloma, MI; and his “adoptive” daughter - Karin Motry (Charles) of Niles; three grandchildren - Janus (Marcy) Kober, Joshua Moayer, Cheyenne Harris.

Norman was preceded in death by his son Norman “Kent” Ketchman, Jr., an infant granddaughter Brea Harris and his step-father, Lyle Miles.
