Michael Ray Thompson, 67, of Sawyer, passed away on Friday, March 13, 2009 at Lakeland Regional Medical Center, St. Joseph.
Funeral services will be held 3 PM Tuesday, March 17 at Pike Funeral Home, Boyd Chapel, 9191 Red Arrow Hwy., Bridgman with Pastor Steve Schimek officiating. Burial will be in New Troy Cemetery. Friends may meet with the family on Tuesday from 2 PM until the time of the service at the funeral home. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be given to Berrien County Cancer Service.
Mr. Thompson was born June 2, 1942 in Martinsville, Indiana the son of the late Samuel “Locy” and Geraldine (Forrester) Thompson. He was a veteran of the US Air Force and a member of the Bridgman American Legion Post 331. On April 27, 1963 he married the former Mary Lou Johnson. Mike was a member of Sawyer United Church of Christ. He was employed by Wollins Products from 1978-2001 and retired in 2006 from All Star Plastics. He was on the Berrien County Reserve Unit in the Marine Division from 1970-1977. He was also a lifelong member of the Masonic Lodge in Bloomington, Indiana. Mike was involved in Church League Softball as a coach and player.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Mary; three sons – Michael “Scott” (Darlene) Thompson of Stevensville, Jeffery (Diana) Thompson of Sawyer, and David (Tara) Thompson of Bridgman; eight grandchildren; three great granddaughters; and a niece, Denise (David) Scisson of Georgia.
Mike was also preceded in death by a brother, Daniel Thompson, in 2005.
