Maxine Fanning

Mrs. Fanning was born November 21, 1916 in Chicago the daughter of the late Henry and Clara Miller. She loved to ice skate as a kid growing up in Chicago. On June 30, 1941 she married Charles G. Fanning and he preceded her in death on February 1, 1985. The family moved to New Troy in 1953. Maxine had a love for horses, ponies, dogs and cats and hosted a 4H club on her Gast Road farm in Bridgman where riders could practice. She had a love for music and was in a musicians union. She played at restaurant/lounges in the area and played the organ for Blossomtime Queen Contests for New Troy, Sawyer, and Bridgman in the 60's and 70's. Maxine retired from Michigan Bell Telephone in 1965 with 35 years of service as a telephone operator. She attended Olivet Congregational Church in Bridgman. She was a member of the New Troy American Legion Auxiliary and was a regular at Bingo in New Troy and Galien.

Survived By her son, Thomas (Beth) Fanning of Berrien Springs; four grandchildren – Andy Fanning of Berrien Springs, Michael (Janice) Fanning of Livingston, Montana, Randy (Tomi) Fanning of Henderson, Nevada, and Janis (Larry "Coco") Cole of Sacramento, California; eight great grandchildren; and a sister, Ruth Barbour of Berrien Center. Preceded in Death By a son, Michael on January 19, 2005; a brother, Gordon Miller; and a sister, Myrtle Geske.
