Mary Melissa Myers, 73, a lifelong Bridgman resident, died May 26, 2010 at Lakeland Regional Medical Center after a short illness. She will be cremated and a memorial service honoring Mary’s life will be scheduled and announced at a later time.
Mary was born June 9, 1936 to Calvin and Ethel (Heimel) Myers. She was preceded in death by her parents. She was a 1954 graduate of Bridgman High School. Mary was employed at Whirlpool Corporation for more than 35 years. While a marriage to Thomas Bancroft ended long ago, they have remained close friends over the years.
Mary was an avid reader, loved a good conversation and could carry on an intelligent discussion on nearly any topic. Her collection of books numbered in the hundreds. She was active in the Bridgman/Lake Township Historical Society of which she was a founding member, and she took a great deal of pride in the fact that her great-grandfather, Calvin Myers, was among Bridgman’s earliest pioneers.
Mary is survived by a son, Hugh (Becky) Myers, Ft. Worth, Texas; two sisters – Evelyn Larson and Martha (Bud) Neiman, Bridgman; two nephews – Brian (Heidi) Neiman, Buchanan, Rusty (Liz) Larson of Arkansas; four nieces – Barbara (Tony) Ashman, Benton Harbor, Nancy Myers, Bridgman, Kim Neiman (Virgil Scott), Dallas, Texas, Michelle (Michael) deSchaaf, Benton Harbor; a granddaughter, Samantha Myers; and four great grandchildren. Mary’s devoted companion, Tom McCort, who loved her deeply, also survives.
