Mary Carolyn Petersen Dey, 91, of St. Joseph, passed away Friday, April 6, at Whitcomb Tower Retirement Residence in the care of her family. Mary was born January 18, 1927 in Highland Park, Michigan, the daughter of the late Dr. Jon and Katherine (Allman) Petersen.
Mary was very active in her community. She was a member and past president of the Civic Benefit Club, a member of P.E.O. and various Parent Teacher Associations, participated in the Women’s Service League Follies for many years, a founding member of Peace Lutheran Church, a member of the church choir and the Warblers singing group at the Whitcomb Tower Retirement Residence, and a volunteer at St. Joseph Today. Mary provided support to her husband serving families at Dey Brother’s Funeral Home. Mary was always active in the lives of her family members, attending concerts, recitals, and sporting events. She was a beautiful seamstress and avid knitter.
George and Mary were truly partners in life, sharing a love affair that lasted 63 years. They worked together to provide a loving home for their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Their love of each other, their family, church and community was an inspiration to all.
Mary is survived by her daughters: Christine (Steve) Eckert, Carolyn (Jerry) Frank, Catherine Pastrick, and Cynthia (Kevin) Doroh; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren. Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years: George Lawrence Dey on May 6, 2010, her son-in-law Frank Pastrick in 2014 and a grandson Matthew Stutz in 2015.
A celebration of Mary’s life will take place Tuesday, May 8, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. at First Church of God, 2627 Niles Avenue, St. Joseph, Michigan. Friends may meet with the family from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. before the service at the church. A private burial has been held.
