Margaret “Jean” Edgerton passed away peacefully at the age of 95 at her home in Sawyer, MI. A Memorial Service will be held at All Saints Anglican Church in Bolingbrook, IL at a later date.
Jean was born July 24, 1927 in Evanston, IL the daughter of the late Arthur W. and Margaret (Richards) Friskey. Jean had two brothers, Richard and Roger. She attended Lawrence College in Appleton, WI where she met her future husband, the late Thomas M. Edgerton. Jean lived most of her adult life in Western Springs, IL where she and Tom raised their four children. Jean and Tom were married for 61 years.
A Sunday School teacher for over 40 years Jean was affectionately known as “Grammie” to many more than her 12 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. She loved to paint, draw, read, bake, make amazing lunches, and tend fabulous gardens. She spent the last 12 years of her life living with her daughter Mimi in Sawyer, MI where, among other things, she contributed many beautiful hand painted furniture pieces to her daughter’s business. Spending time with family, especially near her beloved Lake Michigan, was her favorite thing to do.
Survivors include children: Tom Edgerton (wife Gail); Mimi Edgerton; and Jeff Edgerton (wife Theresa), her 12 grandchildren: Brian, Amy, Dan, Joey, Colleen, Alyssa, Nicholas, Luke, Zachary, Trevor, Carly, and Charlie; and her 10 great grandchildren: Thomas, Grace, Jack, Eleanor, Annie, Bella, Elyse, James, Isla, and another due in May, 2023.
Jean was preceded in death by her brother Roger Friskey, husband Thomas Edgerton, and daughter Peggy (Edgerton) Foley.
