Lavern De Jonge

Lavern De Jonge, 94, of Holland passed away on Monday, July 22, 2024 at UM Health – West, Wyoming, MI.

A memorial service will be held at 11 AM Saturday, July 27, 2024 at First Baptist Church, 246 W. Main Ave., Zeeland, MI 49464, with Reverend Jeremy D. Cobb and Reverend Thomas VandenBerg officiating. Friends may meet with the family from 5-7 PM on Friday, July 26, 2024 at Yntema Funeral Home, 251 S. State St., Zeeland. Private family burial will take place at Zeeland Cemetery. Vern was born November 2, 1929 in Zeeland, MI the son of the late Martin and Angeline (Timmer) De Jonge. On September 15, 1950 he married the former Coralee Walcott. He was a faithful member at First Baptist Church in Zeeland where he served in various capacities over the years. Vern worked in excavating for many years and later drove truck for Bremer Sugar Distributing. He loved his family and adored his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife of 73 years, Coralee; their children: Connie (Russ) Wolbers, Karen (Denny) Minnema, Mark (Jan) De Jonge, and Rachel (Kraig) Pike; grandchildren: LeeAnn (Tim) Suman, Joel (Whitney) Wolbers, Ellen (Cory) Slotman, MaryJo (Ben) Lacy, Nicole (Taviin) Simmons, and Alex (Ashley) Pike; 12 great grandchildren; brothers: Cliff De Jonge, John (Judy) De Jonge, and Ray (Sharon) De Jonge; and sister, MaryAnn (Jerry) Smith.

Vern was also preceded in death by a son, Jack De Jonge; son-in-law, Jack Van Dyke; grandson, Michael and his wife, Kandie, Van Dyke; and brothers: Melvin, Willard, Gordon and Ivan De Jonge.
