Mr. Edwards was born October 29, 1927 in Dell, Arkansas the son of the late Ed and Ollie (Boran) Edwards. He was a member of UAW and retired from Bendix Corp.

Edwards of Bridgman, Judy (Brian Kodrick) Edwards of Morris, Illinois, and Deborah (Arron) Nelson of Perris, California; seven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and a sister, Mildred Edwards of Georgia. John was also preceded in death by two sons – an infant, Jimmy W. Edwards, and James "Rick" Edwards in 2005; and three brothers and three sisters.
