Janet had three loving children, Gail MacIvor Lowrie of Lakeside, Michigan, Wynne Lowrie MacLellan, who preceded Janet in death, and Frederic Bruckner Lowrie, Jr. and his wife Kathleen of Barnstable, Massachusetts. Janet was also close to her dear sisters, Mary MacIvor Wilcoxon and Katherine MacIver Hess, both of whom preceded her in death. Janet also has four loving grandchildren, Allison MacIver Lowrie and her husband, Mark of Denver Colorado; Weston Bamford Lowrie of New Haven, Connecticut; Andrew Saarinen Lowrie of Schenectady, New York; and Mallory Elizabeth MacLellan of Canton, Michigan. She is a 1934 graduate of Detroit Central High School and a 1938 graduate of the University of Michigan where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority. During her years as a student at Michigan she resided in the Martha Cook Building and later served on its board. During her early years her family was the center of her life. She would talk fondly of spending her summers with her sisters and mother on Glen Lake, Michigan. Their father would take the train up from Detroit on weekends.
When Janet moved from Grosse Ile in 2000 she was the last Lowrie to live on the island after nearly 150 years beginning when James Lowrie settled on Grosse Ile in the mid 1800's.
