James Thomas Carney, 86, of Bridgman, MI, passed away on Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at Lakeland Regional Medical Center in St. Joseph, MI.

Funeral services for James and Doris his wife who preceded him in death June 6, will be held at 11 AM on Friday, June 14, 2013 at Pike Funeral Home, Boyd Chapel, 9191 Red Arrow Highway, Bridgman. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Bridgman where they will be buried alongside their son Michael who died in 1982. Visitation will be from 3 - 6 PM Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to Hospice at Home, 4025 Health Park Lane, St. Joseph, Michigan 49085 or Heifer International, 1 World Avenue, Little Rock, Arkansas 72202 or Discalced Carmelite Fathers, Inc., 2131 Lincoln Road NE, Washington DC 20002-1199.

James was born October 18, 1926, in Detroit, Michigan, the son of the late James T. and Catherine M. (Lambe) Carney, Sr. James served in the United States Air Force before he married Doris Marie Harris on August 25, 1956. They shared 56 years together. Jim, “Carney” to many of his friends, was an avid reader, writer, and talker. He volunteered at Jordan’s Life Care Center reading to the residents. In 1976 he published his book “Berrien Bicentennial”.

Survivors include his brother Lawrence and many nieces and nephews.
