James “Jim” Frederick Berndt, 76 of Bridgman passed away Saturday, April 7, 2018 at Lakeland Regional Medical Center, St. Joseph
Friends may meet with the family 5-7 PM Tuesday, April 10, 2018, at The Boyd Chapel of Pike Funeral and Cremation Services, 9191 Red Arrow Hwy., Bridgman. Private family burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Bridgman. Memorial contributions may be given to the NRA, 11250 Waples Mill Road, Fairfax, VA 22030 or Humane Society of SW Michigan, 641 S. Crystal, Benton Harbor, MI 49022.
Jim was born September 12, 1941 in Lake Township the son of the late William and Hilda (Hienrich) Berndt. He attended Bridgman Public School and a was a lifelong resident of Lake Township.
Jim was a talented individual. He could fix almost anything. He worked at a variety of jobs, mostly those that required fixing things. He was a service station owner, heavy equipment mechanic, bus mechanic, worked at nuclear plants and fixed things on the farm. His last job was owning and operating the 19th Tee driving range. Jim enjoyed golf, NASCAR racing and deer hunting.
Survivors include a daughter, Tammy Matias; a son: Todd (Amy) Berndt; grandchildren: Ted (Kristine) Spica, Tim (Jen) Spica, Justin (Jordan) Berndt, Katelynn and Tyler Berndt, Gracie and Savanna Prewitt and six great grandchildren; and a brother Loren Berndt. Survivors also include Robin Johnson, Amanda Demski and Kelly Fisher.
