Jack Conrad Olson, age 91, passed away on August 10, 2011 in Bridgman, Michigan. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. The eldest of four children, he was born October 13, 1920 to John and Emma Olson in Muskegon. He starred as Petruchio in his senior class play, played baseball and football, and graduated as salutatorian of Muskegon High School. In WWII he served for two years as an electrician’s mate aboard the USS Kermit Roosevelt, which was stationed in the North China Sea. Mr. Olson completed his college education at the University of Michigan in 1948; earning a Bachelors of Science degree in Engineering. He married Joyce Martha Ericksen in 1950, and resided in North Muskegon. Mr. Olson worked over 30 years in managerial positions at Sealed Power Corporation, Upon retirement, the Olsons traveled the country and later relocated to St. Augustine, Florida. In 2006, they moved to Bridgman, Michigan.
Mr. Olson was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Emil and August “Paul”. He is survived by his wife of 61 years; his son Jack, grandchildren Jack and Lily, and their mother Michelle of Chicago; his daughter Sheryl, son-in-law Jerome, and granddaughter Sian of Ann Arbor; his sister Marjorie; and numerous nieces and nephews, and friends. Mr. Olson loved fishing, baseball, Michigan football and spending time with family and friends.
His strength of character and compassionate, generous spirit were inspirational. He lives on in the hearts and minds of those who loved him. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held on October 8, 2011, 3 pm, at the Lakeside Inn in Lakeside Michigan. www.lakesideinns.com.
