Irene Soltesz, 87, of St. Joseph, passed away on March 2, 2011 at Royalton Manor, St. Joseph. Her death leaves a heartache no one can heal. Love leaves a memory no one can steal.
Irene was born on July 24, 1923 in Budapest, Hungary, the daughter of Joseph and Marie (Hegubesh) Uhlean. She was very proud of her heritage and her name being recognized at Ellis Island. Her Hungarian hamburgers were a big hit with her grandchildren. Irene was known for her simple way and simple means. She had a “thistle in her whistle” and was unique in nature and always true to herself.
Irene loved playing cards and games of chance. She was also a gambler in life. She knew her odds and played the game well. God had a plan and a better hand and has called her home.
Irene is survived by her daughters - Charlotte Hoyh of Benton harbor, MI, Charmaine (Troy) Soltesz-Carter of Dallas, TX, Pamela (Ted) Jensen of St. Joseph, MI, Edna (Jim) Kiser of Merritt Island, FL; son - Edward (Jennifer) Soltesz, Jr. Of St. Joseph, MI; as well as 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her son-in-law- Melvin C. Hoyh; her brothers - Joseph Uhlean, Bill Uhlean; sister - Mary Banihidi. Per Irene’s wishes, cremation and burial have already taken place. There will be a memorial service held in July.
