Hilda Olson

Hilda Rose Olson, 89, of Stevensville went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2011 at her home surrounded by her family.

Funeral services will be held 10 AM Monday, September 12, at Lake Michigan Christian Center, 9955 Church Street, Bridgman with her son Reverend Lawrence Olson officiating. Friends may meet with the family 2-4 PM Sunday at Pike Funeral Home, Boyd Chapel, 9191 Red Arrow Hwy, Bridgman. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Bridgman. Hilda was born May 14, 1922 in Laird, Saskatchewan, Canada the daughter of the late Abram and Hilda (Klies) Suderman. On November 10, 1942 she married Alfred “Lawrence” Olson. She graduated from Shapiro School of Nursing in Detroit and returned to Lake Michigan College at the age of 55 to become a Registered Nurse. She was the director of Nursing at the former Restwood Inn, South Haven and retired as a private practice nurse in 1989. She was a member of Lake Michigan Christian Center in Bridgman and was an accomplished baker and cook. She was creatively artistic and innovative, and most of all loved her time with her family and her grandkids.

Survivors include her husband of 68 years, Lawrence; four children - Daryle “Mark” (Lisa) Olson of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, Lawrence (Karyn) Olson of Bridgman, Connie (Richard) McDougald of Colville, WA and Pamela (Mike) Gibbs of Bridgman; grandchildren - Kelly Vandenberg, Kristyn (Nathan) Binns, Angela (Chad) Gatchell, Michael McDougald, Lisa (James) Guerino, Brooklyn Olson and Courtney Olson; great grandchildren - Jadyn and Gianna Guerino, Reagan and London Gatchell and Ronan Binns.

Hilda was also preceded in death by 12 brothers and sisters.
