Henry Richard “Dick” Freehling, 78, of Buchanan passed away peacefully to his Heavenly home on Friday, November 14, 2008 at Jordan’s Nursing Home, Bridgman with his loving family at his side
Funeral services will be held 11 AM Tuesday, November 18 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Glendora with Rev. Thomas Brazinsky officiating. Burial will be in Weesaw Township Cemetery, Buchanan. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Monday at Pike Funeral Home, Boyd Chapel, 9191 Red Arrow Hwy., Bridgman. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be given to Trinity Lutheran Church, Glendora or Hospice at Home.
Henry was born December 15, 1929 in Buchanan the son of the late George and Katherine (Busick) Freehling. On June 4, 1949 he married the love of his life, Mary McMillen. Henry was a lifelong farmer. He raised and milked registered Holstein cows with his son, George, on the family farm. He served on the Farm Service Agency as a County Committee Man.
Henry’s strong faith in God was his number one priority in life. He never hesitated to witness his love for his Savior to the many people who crossed paths with him. Henry’s favorite Bible passage was the 23rd Psalm which was a great source of comfort to him. He was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Glendora.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Mary; four sons – Henry (Sharon) Freehling, Jr. of Fort Worth, Texas, George (Rita) Freehling of Buchanan, Wayne (Candy) Freehling of Sawyer, and Ronald (Connie) Freehling of Boyd, Texas; one daughter, Diana (Mark) Price of Buchanan; 11 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; one brother, Harold Freehling of Baroda; and two sisters – Dorothy Backus of Stuart, Florida and Marie (Richard) Clark of Buchanan.
