Hattie Mae Whitt, 95, of St. Joseph passed away peacefully on Friday, June 12, 2015 surrounded by her loving family.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Tuesday, June 16, 2015 at Zion Evangelical United Church of Christ, 3001 Veronica Drive, St. Joseph with Reverend Eric Thorsen officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, St. Joseph. Friends may meet with the family from 6 - 8 PM Monday at Pike Funeral Home, Boyd Chapel, 9191 Red Arrow Highway, Bridgman. Hattie was born March 25, 1920 in Crandall, Tennessee. She married Revis Carl Whitt in West Virginia in 1940. They were married 37 years before his death in 1977 and they were blessed with nine children. Left to cherish her memory are her children: JoAnn (Clarence) Slabaugh of Stevensville, Brenda Baldwin of Benton Harbor, James Whitt of Stevensville, Gary Whitt of Milford, Michael (Debbie) Whitt of Stevensville, Philip “Randy” (Joyce) Whitt of Benton Harbor, Sharon Yakel of Wadsworth, Ill., Barry (Viki) Whitt of Santa Rancho Margarita, CA, Robin (Ray) Steadmon of Lawton; 43 grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; two sisters: Ellen Rhodes of Battle Creek and Lillian Mahaffey of Benton Harbor.
Hattie was an avid gardener, loved cooking, working and solving puzzles, and playing with her grandchildren. You could always be assured you would be welcomed with a smile, a hug, and a great sense of humor.
Hattie was preceded in death by special granddaughters: Connie Slabaugh of Stevensville and Shaya Whitt of Benton Harbor; and great grandson Aidan Wood; 3 sisters: Minnie Moore, Iola Norris and Betty Owen; and three brothers: Fred, Paul and Lester Stone.
