Harold Cope

Harold Mitchell Cope, 79, of Baroda passed away on Saturday, September 26, 2009 at Lakeland Regional Medical Center, St. Joseph.

Funeral services will be held 10 AM Tuesday, September 29, at Pike Funeral Home, Boyd Chapel, 9191 Red Arrow Hwy., Bridgman with Rev. Christopher Noffke officiating. Burial will be in Ruggles Cemetery, Baroda. Friends may meet with the family from 5-7 PM Monday at the funeral home. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be given to The American Diabetes Association or The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

Harold was born June 11, 1930 in Sparta, Tennessee the son of the late Taylor and Virgie (Kent) Cope. He served in the US Air Force during the Korean War. In 1952 he married the former Dorothy Hummel-Mabry. Harold had worked at Whirlpool Corp. in LaPorte, Indiana and Superior Steel in Benton Harbor. He served on the Bridgman Fire Department for eight years.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; six children – Jerry (Deborah) Mabry of Bridgman, Arlie “Vern” (Carolee) Mabry of Baroda, Dennis (Barbara) Mabry of Benton Township, Pamila (Carl) Ziegert of Baroda, H. Steven (Bonnie) Cope of Mishawaka, Indiana, and Mark Cope of Bronson, Michigan; 15 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; a brother, Cordell (Margaret) Cope of Tennessee; and three nieces – Deborah, Pamela and Susie and a nephew, Timothy.

Harold was preceded in death by a grandson, Anthony Keltner; an infant great granddaughter; and a sister, Ruby Foster.
