HH Critchfield, passed away on August 12, 2012, having traveled a long journey with mesothelioma cancer. HH was born July 26, 1934 in Montpelier, Ohio to Charlie and Grace (Lattanner) Critchfield. He married Hilary (Moore) Critchfield in Buchanan, Michigan December 19, 1959.
Survivors are his wife, sister Gracilee Siebenaler and children Scott Critchfield, wife Kate, Jeffrey and Laura Critchfield and Beth (Critchfield) and James Lawton. Grandchildren are Thomas, Sarah, Anne and Brian Critchfield, Emma and Grace Lawton. Several nieces and nephews are also survivors. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Kenneth and sisters Louise, Betty and Mary Lou.
Following graduation from General Motors Institute in Flint, Michigan with a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering he worked for over 45 years in several iron foundries in Quality Control management. After retirement he pursued his life long passion of 50 years for down-hill skiing, traveling and gardening. His Hostas collection of over 130 varieties were a continual challenge for survival from the deer who relished the greens.
We will miss his wry humor and smile, his loving, caring ways and his belief in HOPE! We wish to thank Dr. Jason Beckrow and Dr. Hedy Kindler who gave us care and treatment that extended H’s life and Jordan’s Life Care Center who gave such loving and caring aid.
In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to Hospice at Home, 4025 Health Park Lane, St. Joseph, Michigan 49085 or Berrien County Cancer Service, Inc. 7301 Red Arrow Highway, Stevensville, Michigan 49127. A memorial celebration of HH’s life is scheduled for November 24, 2012.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
