Gordon Nemitz

Gordon Charles Nemitz, 70, of Bridgman passed away on Monday, April 20, 2009 at home.

A memorial service will be held 11 AM Friday, April 24 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Bridgman with Pastor Jon Bendewald officiating. Friends may meet with the family from 6-8 PM Thursday at Pike Funeral Home, Boyd Chapel, 9191 Red Arrow Hwy., Bridgman. Gordon was born September 17, 1938 in Bridgman the son of Arthur and Irene (Nehring) Nemitz. At the age of 16, he started driving trucks into Chicago for the family business, Art Nemitz Fruit and Produce. Gordon graduated from Bridgman High School in 1956 and was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Bridgman.. On September 19, 1959 he married the former Patricia Mabry. He took over the family business in 1980. Gordon was an avid golfer. He enjoyed his Saturdays for over 25 years at Pebblewood Country Club where he scored two holes-in-one.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Patricia; three children – Rodney (Lisa) Nemitz, Lori (Vince) Rose, and Jeffrey Nemitz all of Bridgman; six grandchildren – Abigail Nemitz, Zachary Nemitz, Dylan Rose, Lincoln Rose, Breanna Nemitz, and Katelynn Nemitz; his mother, Irene Nemitz of Bridgman; a sister, Ilene Nemitz of Bridgman; and a brother, Arthur (Linda) Nemitz of Portage.

Gordon was preceded in death by his father, Arthur Nemitz, in 1982.
