Gerald Wyatt "Jerry" Edwards, Sr., 82, of Bridgman, passed away on Wednesday, March 19, 2008 at Jordan's Nursing Home, Bridgman.
Jerry was born January 28, 1926 in Harrisburg, Arkansas the son of the late Thomas and Stella (Gatewood) Edwards. He served in the US Navy during WWII. On July 2, 1949 he married the former Joyce Dare Sizemore. They relocated to Berrien Springs and remained there to raise their family. Jerry worked for many years at various VM locations in Benton Harbor. When that company left the area, he was fortunate to find work in his own back yard at Faulkner Fabricators in Berrien Springs. He worked there until his retirement. His retirement was a time for fun and travel. Jerry and his wife traveled the Midwest in search of late model cars that Jerry could fix up and resell. Jerry found great enjoyment in this quest. And he also enjoyed buying and selling many types of tools. But Jerry was also big-hearted enough to loan out anything that he owned to anyone who needed it. If there was something Jerry couldn't fix, it probably was truly ready for the scrap heap. He took lots of good-natured ribbing about being the origination of the term "jerry-rigged." As Jerry's health declined, he started a second family with the many loving and caring members of Jordan's staff. He had nicknames and stories for them all. He was truly one of a kind.
