George Burkhard

George Lewis Burkhard, 81, of Buchanan went to be with his Lord on Sunday, February 8, 2009 at Good Shepherd Hospice House of Auburndale, Florida.

Funeral services will be held 11 AM Friday, February 13, 2009 at Pike Funeral Home, Boyd Chapel, 9191 Red Arrow Hwy, Bridgman with Pastor Sean Kidd officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Bridgman. Friends may meet with the family from 6-8 PM Thursday at the funeral home. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be given to Good Shepherd Hospice House of Auburndale, Florida.

Mr. Burkhard was born February 25, 1927 in St. Joseph the son of the late Fred and Margaret (Stolfo) Burkhard. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, playing cards and his garden. He enjoyed participating at the senior center in Michigan and Florida. George retired from Weldun Tool in Bridgman as a Project Engineer. He attended Auburndale Community Church and Buchanan Christian Church.

On March 22, 1947, George married the former Shirley L. Jones and she preceded him in death on May 23, 1976. On July 1, 1977, he married the former Wilma M. Schultz and she preceded him in death on May 16, 2003. On May 22, 2005, he married the former Mary Jane Ferguson and she survives along with six children – George Burkhard, John Burkhard, Steve Burkhard, Sue (William) Dorman, Kevin (Sherry) Burkhard, and Jeff (Sandy) Burkhard; two step children – Bonnie (Bill) Judware and Tom Kinney; several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

George was also preceded in death by a brother, Richard.
