Fred Franz Zehm, 78, of Baroda passed away following a long and courageous battle with cancer on Monday, June 11, 2012 at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, June 15, 2012 at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2673 W. John Beers Road, Stevensville, with Reverend Jonathan Kruschel officiating. Burial will be in Ruggles Cemetery, Baroda. Friends may meet with the family from 6-8 PM Thursday at Pike Funeral Home, Boyd Chapel, 9191 Red Arrow Hwy., Bridgman. Memorial contributions may be given to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.
Fred was born May 18, 1934, in Pommern, Germany, the son of Hans Herbert and Anna Marie (Lehmann) Zehm. He came to the United States in December of 1954 with his family. He was a veteran of the US Army. Fred married Lilli Friede on October 14, 1961. Fred owned and operated Town & Country Bakery from 1960 - 1974 and then went on to Benton Harbor Engineering until it closed in 1996. He then worked at Tig Master until he retired in 1999. He was an active honorary member of St. Joe Kickers Sports Club and enjoyed playing soccer as well as later coaching. Fred loved spending time with his wife, family, and grandchildren. He enjoyed working outside, attending to his vegetable garden, and just “putzing” around.
Survivors include his wife of over 50 years, Lilli; his four sons; Rick Zehm of Stevensville, David (Janna) Zehm of Stevensville, Scott (Stacey) Zehm of St. Joseph, James Zehm of Buchanan; grandchildren - Justyn, Jessica, Ariana, Logan and Andrew; brothers - Hans (Dorothy) Zehm of California and Gerd (Debbie) Zehm of North Carolina; and a sister - Traute (Claire) Reimer of Ohio.
