Ellis Jerome VanderPloeg

Ellis Jerome VanderPloeg, 94, of Bridgman passed away on Saturday, January 13, 2024 at Hanson Hospice Center, Stevensville. 

A funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Friday, January 26, 2024 at Pike Funeral and Cremation Services, Boyd Chapel, 9191 Red Arrow Hwy, Bridgman, MI 49106, with Reverend Jim Oakley, officiating. Friends may meet with the family from 10 – 11 AM on Friday at the funeral home, prior to the service. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Bridgman. Ellis was born on October 6, 1929 in Hamilton, Michigan the son of the late William and Wilma (Wentzel) VanderPloeg. On August 6, 1954 he married Doris VanderZouwen and she preceded him in death in 2018. Ellis was a member of Woodland Shores Baptist Church and a United States Army Veteran. He retired from CSX Railroad as a bridge tender and for many years was the clerk at the Bridgman Depot. 

Survivors include his children: Douglas VanderPloeg, Keith VanderPloeg, Phyllis VanderPloeg, Jon VanderPloeg, Myra (Fritz) Dornan; five grandchildren and four great grandchildren. 

Ellis was also preceded in death by his siblings: Joan, Alma, Lyle, Beryl Marsha and Donna Mae.
