Elli Smaka, 84, of Baroda, passed away on Saturday, March 7, 2009 at Jordan’s Life Care Center, Bridgman.

Funeral services will be held 11 AM Thursday, March 12 at Pike Funeral Home, Boyd Chapel, 9191 Red Arrow Hwy., Bridgman with the Rev. Gerald Schroer officiating. Burial will be in Ruggles Cemetery, Baroda. Friends may meet with the family from 6-8 PM Wednesday and one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to Jordan’s Life Care Center Activities Fund.

Mrs. Smaka was born March 14, 1924 in Germany the daughter of the late Fridrich and Selinda (Czech) Matay. On June 7, 1947 she married Walter Smaka and he preceded her in death on November 9, 2006. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Stevensville and the D.A.N.K.

Survivors include two children – Wilfried (Marilyn) Smaka of Baroda and Ursula (Ralph) Wenzel of Osceola, Indiana; six grandchildren – Aaron, Alan, and Karen Smaka, Christopher, Brian, and Emily Wenzel; four great grandchildren – Marlayna, Cayden, Taylor and Jordan; a brother, Reinhold Matay of Kissimmee, Florida; and a sister, Alma Wicknig of St. Petersburg, Florida.
