Elfriede Wandel, 80, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday, July 24, 2011 at Jordan’s Life Care Center in Bridgman, Michigan.
Funeral services will be held 10 AM Thursday, July 28 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 9650 Church Street, Bridgman. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Bridgman. Friends may meet with the family Wednesday from 5-8 PM at Pike Funeral Home, Boyd Chapel, 9191 Red Arrow Hwy., Bridgman. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be given to Immanuel Lutheran Church Mission Fund.
Mrs. Wandel was born March 1, 1931 in Germany the daughter of the late Sergius and Berta (Lochwitz) Mojsiejenko. On February 26, 1949 she married Alfred Wandel and together they shared 61 years. He preceded her in death on April 3, 2010. Elfriede was a long time member at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Bridgman. She enjoyed spending time with her family and cooking and baking for them. She also enjoyed visiting the shut-ins from church and bringing them cakes and potato pancakes. Elfriede worked at Heath Company and retired from Shepherd Products Corp. in St. Joseph. She made lots of friends at Jordan’s and will be missed by many.
Survivors include a daughter - Anita Wandel of Benton Harbor, and a son - Richard (Susan) of Bridgman; one grandchild - Steven (Johanna)Wandel of Benton Harbor; great grandchildren - Nicholas and Brianna; a brother - Wally (Annemarie) Mojsiejenko of Bridgman and a sister - Erna Meinhardt of Germany.
