Eleanor Mae Maier, 89, of Berrien Springs passed away on Thursday, February 19, 2015 at her home following a brief illness.
A funeral service will be held 11 AM Monday, February 23, 2015 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 9193 Cleveland Ave., Baroda with Reverend Bradley A. Ross officiating. Visitation will be held Sunday from 2 - 4 PM at Pike Funeral Home, Boyd Chapel, 9191 Red Arrow Highway, Bridgman. Burial will be in Salem Cemetery, Berrien Springs. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church, PO Box 67, Baroda, MI 49101.
Eleanor was born November 8, 1925 in Chicago, Illinois the daughter of the late Alexander and Ernestine (Schleiman) Dinges. She married Jacob Maier Jr. On April 7, 1951 and he preceded her in death in 2003. She retired from Kohn Kasting and together with her husband she worked on the family farm. Eleanor loved taking care of her family. She was a lifelong member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church and enjoyed all the church functions and activities. Her interests were many; quilting, crocheting, puzzles and John Wayne movies, reading, bird watching, and baking cookies - acquiring the name of “Grandma Cookie”.
Survivors include her children: Nancy (Theodore) Kennedy of Berrien Springs, Betty Ann Maier of Berrien Springs; five grandchildren; six great grandchildren; seven great great grandchildren; sister: Kay (Vernon) Roeder, Jr. of Stevensville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Eleanor was also preceded in death by a son, James L. Maier in 2012; a great granddaughter, Nikki Darnell in 2012; sister Beverly Reisig in 2012; and her brother Leonard Dinges in 2011.
