Donald Gantzer

Donald Arno Gantzer, 75, of Bridgman passed away on Friday, May 27, 2016 at Hanson Hospice Center in Stevensville.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 AM Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 3903 Lake Street, Bridgman with Father Arthur Howard, Celebrant. A Prayer Service will be held 4:30 PM Tuesday at Pike Funeral Home, Boyd Chapel, 9191 Red Arrow Hwy, Bridgman. Visitation will be from 5-7 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Bridgman. Memorial contributions may be given to the Food Pantry at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 3903 Lake Street, Bridgman, MI 49106.

Donald was born September 10, 1940 in Detroit, the son of the late Donald William and Frieda Lucille (Baker) Gantzer. On February 23, 1963 he married LaVonne Joyce Shepard and they shared 53 years together. Donald worked at Midwest Foundry in Coldwater and Bridgman Casting Center in Bridgman. He owned and operated C & R Landscaping Services. Donald was an avid hunter and fisherman, and had a knack for collecting rocks and boulders for projects he undertook at home. He was a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Bridgman.

Survivors include his wife LaVonne; children: Randy Gantzer of Bridgman, Jackie (Angelo) LaMantia of Crown Point, IN, Jeff (Heather) Gantzer of Midland; grandchildren: Samantha (Joshua) Plitt, Nicole (fianc’e Mitch Snyder) LaMantia, Arielle, Zachary, and Caleb Gantzer; siblings: Terry Gantzer of Portage, Robert (Bonnie) Gantzer of Franklin, Wisconsin, Merry (John) Zogas of Anchorage, Alaska, Christine (Carl) Tubbs of Stevensville, and Greg Gantzer of Smyrna, Delaware.
