David Ponegalek of Union Pier is peacefully resting in the heavens. He passed away Monday, April 2, 2018 at 4:00 p.m. at St. Joseph's Hospital in Mishawaka, Indiana.

David was born June 19, 1935 in Wilson, Michigan, the son of late John and Stella Ponegalek.

He grew up in Lakeside and on May 30, 1958 he married Patrica Sidwell of Sawyer and they settled and raised their family in Three Oaks. He was a very strong, hard-working, loving husband, father, and grandfather. He retired from 30 years at Rieth Riley Construction where he had a very special group of employees that he cared about. He also worked for Oselka Construction for many years driving truck. He always worked hard for his family to ensure they had a better way of life than he had. He had a big heart and was the person who wanted to always help others. His passion was his family and hunting. Dad never missed a year hunting as he loved to be with his sons and the guys playing in the woods. We have so many memories of trips to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, whether it was for family reunions, spring break getting snowed in, camping, or hunting with Dad. He will be missed by many family and friends.

Survivors include daughters, Tammie (Dave) Kissman and Lisa (Brian) Schroeder; sons, Scott Ponegalek and David (Amy) Ponegalek; grandchildren, Andrew (Enida) Kissman, Heather Ponegalek, Aaron Kissman and Daniel (Alex) Ponegalek; sister Laverne (Art) Hut; brothers Don (Judy) Ponegalek, Jim Ponegalek, Keith (Linda) Ponegalek and multiple nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Patricia, infant daughter Kimberly Ponegalek, parents John and Stella Ponegalek, brother John Ponegalek and sister Lois Kriechbaum.

A private family graveside service will be held by the immediate family. Memorial contributions may be made to the Berrien County Cancer Service or Hospice at Home.
