Dr. David Webber Willson, 79, of Bridgman, MI passed away on Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at Bronson Medical Center in Kalamazoo, MI.
He was born Thursday, February 17, 1938 in Detroit to Albert Webber Willson and Mary Elizabeth Thompson. He graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Royal Oak, MI in 1956, graduated with a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Detroit (MI) School of Dentistry in 1965, and a Master of Arts degree in psychology from Andrews University in Berrien Springs, MI in 1987.
Dr. Willson started his own dental practice in St. Joseph, MI in 1965 where he remained until retirement in December of 1997. During that time, he served on the boards of many local, state and national professional organizations including the Michigan Dental Association’s Board of Trustees and the state of Michigan’s Board of Dentistry Education Commission. He was a member of the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi and the dental fraternity Delta Sigma Delta.
He enjoyed traveling, golfing, sailing, downhill skiing, whitewater rafting, woodworking, painting, genealogy, walking along the lakeshore, and entertaining family and friends on his deck.
Dr. Willson is survived by his children, Matthew Treacy of St. Joseph, MI and his daughter Sterling; David (Katherine) Willson of Ann Arbor, MI; Dana (Kay) Treacy of Kingsley, MI and their children Nickalaus (father of Dr. Willson’s great-granddaughter Rachel), Alyssa, Abigail, and Allison; Angela (Abdelkader) Tefridj of Westmont, IL and their sons Jami and Malik; Jennifer (Jon) Harner of Berrien Center, MI and their children Faith, Christiana, Samuel, and Lydia; and Samantha (Matt) Miller of St Joseph, MI and their daughters Mya and Lily.
He is also survived by his sisters, Su Dever of Las Vegas, NV; Mickey Schempp of Largo, FL; and Beth (Steve) Willson-Holub of Valrico, FL; and lifelong friends since childhood, Phil (Holly) Novell of Orchid, FL and Clint Fogle of Royal Oak, MI.
He was predeceased by his brother Albert in Michigan in 1955; both of his parents in Florida in 1987; and his sister Mary Ellen (Dave) Christensen in Michigan in 2008.
