Catherine Delores Anderson

Catherine Delores Anderson, 95, of Bridgman passed away peacefully the evening of Friday, September 15, 2023 at her home, surrounded by loved ones, according to her wishes.

A memorial service will be held at 2 PM on Tuesday, September 26, 2023 at Pike Funeral and Cremation Service, The Boyd Chapel, 9191 Red Arrow Highway, Bridgman, MI, 49106. Friends may meet with the family from 1 to 2 PM on Tuesday at the funeral home, prior to the service. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, New Buffalo, MI. Catherine was born on September 4, 1928 in Elmhurst, Illinois, the daughter of the late Harry and Ethel (O’Connor) Jenks. In February of 1948, she married Bridgman basketball star Roy “Andy” Anderson, who preceded her in death in 2018. Catherine graduated from New Buffalo High School, and was the last living graduate of the class of 1946. Her mother was Miss New Buffalo of 1927. Along with being a housewife and mother, Catherine also worked for about 25 years at the Heath-Zenith Company in St. Joseph, retiring in the early 1990’s. Her nickname was “Katie.”

Catherine was a lifelong Democrat until Donald Trump’s candidacy when she switched to the Republican Party, and she was well known for questioning the political system itself, and always enjoyed a good debate. An avid reader, she also was a whiz at crossword puzzles, enjoyed going to the beach, and she especially enjoyed watching The Golden Girls, Jeopardy, and The Andy Griffith Show. Her homemade pies and chocolate chip cookies were popular. And she loved to babysit her grandchildren.

Survivors include her children: Bradley (Hannah) Anderson, Steven Anderson, Kay (Rick) Martin, Mark (Angelita) Anderson, and James (Christine) Anderson; grandchildren: David (Jennifer) Anderson, Michael (Cara) Anderson, Angela Anderson, Christopher (Cecily) Anderson, Evan Anderson, Shawn Anderson, and Ryan Anderson; great-grandchildren: Emma (Jordan) Boomer, Lilia, Landon, Bryn, Payton and Parker, as well as Kaden, Brady, Aubrey, Riley, Presley and Wyatt; a great-great grandchild, Levi; beloved friend Connie Schmidt; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Catherine was also preceded in death by two siblings: David Mathews, Patricia (Jenks) (Skrocki) O’Connor; a step-great grandchild: Joshua Vincent; and other beloved friends, Harry Krueger and Leona Skopec.
