Carolyn Malmstadt

Carolyn Gay Hart Malmstadt, 86 of Bridgman died August 4, 2012 at her home and has gone on to her eternal home with her Lord and Savior.

A memorial service will be held at Sawyer Highlands Church in Sawyer, Michigan at a later date to be announced. In a letter to her family it was her hope that her friends and loved ones left behind would rejoice that she is home and that they will live in the freedom of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Carolyn was born on September 27, 1925 in Fillmore, California. She was the youngest of five siblings. She precedes only her brother Tut Hart. She graduated from UC Berkley in 1945 and married Howard V. Malmstadt of Marinette, Wisconsin on August 3, 1947. They lived in Madison, Wisconsin in their early married years then moved to Urbana, Illinois where she and Howard raised their three children Cynthia, Alice, and Jon.

With their three children grown, Carolyn and Howard moved to Kailua-Kona, Hawaii as missionaries in Youth With a Mission. Her quick wit and sharp intelligence enlivened every meal and conversation, and her untiring ministry of hospitality was a wonderful complement to Howard's career, both at the University of Illinois and the University of the Nations. Her ministry of intercession benefited not only her family, but many YWAM missionaries, other ministries, and the USA. After 10 years, they moved back to the Midwest and made Bridgman, Michigan their year round home, where she has lived since 1990.

Carolyn is survived by her son-in-law, Tom Bloomer of Burtigny, Switzerland, daughter Alice (Philip) Magner of Modesto, California, and son Jon Malmstadt of Bridgman; three grandsons, Jonathan (Meghan) Magner, Paul Magner, and Philip (Amy) Bloomer.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
