Bernard Eugene Abendshein

Bernard “Bernie” Eugene Abendshein, 81, of Sawyer, passed away on Tuesday, February 20, 2024 at Corewell Health South, St. Joseph.

A funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, February 27, 2024 at Harbert Community Church, 6444 Harbert Rd, Sawyer, MI 49125, with Reverend Jay Fast officiating. Friends may meet with the family from 10-11 AM on Tuesday at the church, prior to the service. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Three Oaks. Memorial contributions may be given to Harbert Community Church or Neighbor to Neighbor, 16170 Red Arrow Hwy, Ste. C7, Union Pier, MI 49129. Online condolences accepted at www.PikeFH.com. 

Bernie was born on May 5, 1942 in Marshall, Michigan the son of the late Percy and Lucille (Davenport) Abendshein. On August 7, 1965 he married the former Anna Lee Leiter. He was a former member at Three Oaks Free Methodist Church and now a faithful member at Harbert Community Church. Bernie taught 8^th Grade at the River Valley School District, retiring in 1997. He enjoyed coaching many sports at River Valley including Girls Basketball. For many years he was an Innkeeper at Gordon Beach Inn. Bernie was also a Park Ranger at Warren Dunes State Park from the 1980s to 2007.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Anna Lee; their son, Brian Abendshein; a sister, Yvonne (Dewayne) Beron; and many nieces and nephews.
