Barbara Helen Vliet, 77, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 7, 2011 at Tendercare, in Cass City, Michigan.
Barbara was born June 13, 1934, in Dixie, West Virginia to the late Lorenzo and Johanna (Kirk) Davis. During her youth she and her family moved to Michigan where she grew up in the Dearborn area. She met and married the love of her life, Ira J. Vliet on May 17, 1951. Ira was a master of masonry, and preceded her in death on June 9, 2000.
Cremation has taken place and a Celebration Service for both Barbara and Ira will be held at Pike Funeral Home, Boyd Chapel, 9191 Red Arrow Highway, Bridgman, MI on Saturday, August 27 at 10:30 AM. Friends may meet with the family an hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Barbara & Ira’s honor to the Humane Society of Southwestern Michigan, 641 S. Crystal, Benton Harbor, MI 49022.
Together Barbara and Ira took great pride in raising two children, as they lived in the Stevensville area for most of their married life. For many years, Barbara was known to many as an outstanding real estate agent. Her family will remember her for her creative efforts, as she enjoyed sewing, flower gardening and antiquing. In later years she served the community by assisting with election polls.
Surviving is her daughter Rita (Jim) Parsch of Elkton, MI and a son Larry (Deb) Vliet of St. Joseph; five grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Many close family and friends will miss her.
