Ann Lee Schmaltz, 79, of Baroda, passed away on Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at Woodland Terrace, Bridgman.
Funeral Services will be held 10:00 AM Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at Trinity Lutheran Church of Glendora, 1733 Glendora Road, Buchanan, with Reverend Jonathan Liebich officiating. Friends may meet with the family from 5-8 PM Monday at Pike Funeral and Cremation Services, Boyd Chapel, 9191 Red Arrow Highway, Bridgman. Memorials may be given to the Trinity Lutheran Church, Glendora.
Ann was born on July 11, 1938 in Sparta, Michigan, the daughter of the late Norman and Marjorie Jane (Loring) Holben. On November 15, 1958 she married Fred Rhine Schmaltz and they shared their lives for 59 years until his death in 2015. Ann was a faithful member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church of Glendora. She served her faith for over 58 years as an organist, choir director, and children’s music director. She was an active member of the Trinity Lutheran Ladies League, and the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League. Ann served her community as an Executive Board Member of the Multiple Sclerosis Society and as a sewing and knitting 4-H leader for many years. She had a devout love of music and enjoyed playing the piano for Woodland Terrace residents. Ann had a lifelong passion of researching her family genealogy and working and managing the family farm. She truly had a servant’s heart and her hands were never idle.
She is survived by three daughters- Pamela (Philip) Thompson, Patricia (Jerry) Vigansky, and Miriam (Andy) Barbott; two sons – Gerald (Debbie) Schmaltz and Michael (Kim) Schmaltz; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brother Larry (Muriel) Holben and sister Sue (Michael) Callihan.
Ann was also preceded in death by a sister, Barbara McAlvey.
