Allan Jack Mathieu

Allan Jack Mathieu, 71, of Bridgman passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Thursday, April 24, 2025 at Corewell Health South, St. Joseph.

A memorial service will be held at 11 AM on Friday, May 2, 2025 at Pike Funeral Home, Boyd Chapel, 9191 Red Arrow Hwy., Bridgman, MI 49106. Friends may meet with the family from 10-11 AM on Friday at the funeral home, prior to the service. Allan was born on March 14, 1954 to Jack and Dorothy (Kunde) Mathieu in St. Joseph. He was a lifelong resident of Bridgman. He graduated in 1972 from Bridgman High School and attended Lake Michigan College. He was retired from American Electric Power.

On September 15, 1990 he married Beth Fleck. Together they raised two sons, Daniel and Tyler. He was always involved with the boys’ sports having coached little league for Daniel’s baseball team, the Giants. Al and the boys joking called themselves “The Jolly Green Giants”. He also coached all of Tyler’s little league teams and made many new friends through the Bridgman Baseball Association. He was also a floor hockey coach for Tyler’s team. Allan was President for many years and one of the founding members of the Boat Brothers Fishing Club. He hosted many golf outings and fishing tournaments at his home.

Allan was a S.A.L. member at Bridgman American Legion Post 331 where he enjoyed playing euchre on Saturday afternoons and helping collect money at fish fries and wing nights until his decline in health. He was passionate about hunting and fishing. Allan and his cousin, Larry, traveled to Wyoming to his cousin Jimmy’s, where Jimmy took them elk hunting and fishing at Yellowstone National Park. He also made a trip to Rice Lake in Canada with his friend, Mike Hahaj, and a few other fellows. He always joked about he and Mike having to clean all the numerous fish that were caught because the other guys were too old. Al was also an avid Notre Dame fan. He loved playing cribbage with his Uncle Wally Mathieu. When friends stopped over, he would always ask them if they wanted to play a game.

He loved the 4th of July due to his fascination with fireworks, a love that he shared with his nephew, Donavon.

Allan will be remembered for his deep love of his family, his welcoming personality, his kindness and willingness to help a friend.

Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Beth; a son, Tyler Mathieu; two grandchildren: Michael McCraner and Alisha Fleck; two sisters: Jackie (Tom) Ewald and Elizabeth Mathieu; two nieces: Regina (Kurt) Shea and Sara (Lior Haim) Haber; four nephews: Nick (Thoa) Reyna, Steve (Rey) Reyna, Kevin Reyna, and Johnathan Haber; mother-in-law, Carol Ackerman; father-in-law, Harry Fleck, Sr.; and brother-in-law, Harry Fleck, Jr.

Allan was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Dorothy Mathieu; brother, Mark Mathieu; stepson, Daniel Fleck; and nephew, Mathieu Reyna.
