Albert Herman “Schnapps” Scharnowske Jr., 85, of Bridgman passed away on Monday, July 15, 2013 at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM, Friday, July 19, 2013 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 9650 N. Church Street, Bridgman, with Reverend Jon Bendewald officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Bridgman with military rites provided by the Bridgman American Legion Post 331 and the US Naval Station Great Lakes. Friends may meet with the family from 5-8 PM Thursday at Pike Funeral Home, Boyd Chapel, 9191 Red Arrow Hwy., Bridgman. Memorial contributions may be given to Immanuel Lutheran Church, Bridgman, American Legion Post 331, 4241 Legion Street, Bridgman, MI 49106 or Hospice at Home, 4025 Health Park Lane, St. Joseph, MI 49085.
Albert was born June 23, 1928, in Bridgman, the son of the late Albert and Minnie (Teifke) Scharnowske, Sr. Albert married Marilyn Ott on May 13, 1950 and she preceded him in death in 2001. He served in the United States Navy and was a life member of the Bridgman American Legion Post 331. He retired from Gast Manufacturing after 35 years. Albert served his community on the Lake Township Fire Department for 35 years and was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Bridgman.
Survivors include his children - Pamela Kriel of Coloma, Gary (Jeannie) Scharnowske of Berrien Springs, Rhonda (Allan) Kleer of Lexington, Ohio; grandchildren - Fredrick (Heidi Winkler) Kriel, Kimberly (John) Sternaman, Kim (Greg) Glaske, Kory Kleer; six great grandchildren.
Albert was also preceded in death by a brother - Harold Scharnowske; sisters - Marguerite Prudek and Ruth Harris.
