Albert Lucas

Albert Gordon “Pete” Lucas, 72, of Berrien Springs passed away on Sunday, February 6, 2011 at Lakeland Regional Medical Center, St. Joseph.

Funeral services will be held 11 AM Wednesday, Feb. 9, at Pike Funeral Home, Boyd Chapel, 9191 Red Arrow Hwy, Bridgman with Minister Lonnie Rhodes of Portage Road General Baptist Church in Niles officiating.

Friends may meet with the family at the funeral home Tuesday from 5-8 PM. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Berrien Springs. In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the American Heart Association, Berrien County Cancer Service or Lakeland Hospice. Online condolences accepted at www.PikeFH.com.

Pete was born May 11, 1938 in Benton Harbor the son of the late Clyde and Lillie (Yazel) Lucas. On Oct. 26, 1963 he married Vergene “Jean” Burwell. He worked for over 32 years at Chardon Rubber in St. Joseph and then for Berrien Bus for 10 years. Pete served his country in the United States Marine Corp. He was an avid reader and a Spartan fan, but most of all enjoyed being with his grandkids and family.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Jean of Berrien Springs; a daughter, Phyllis (fiancee, Rodney Brohman) Lucas of Berrien Springs; two sons - Phillip (Stacy) Lucas of Hartford and Dean (Renee) Lucas of Kalamazoo; a son-in-law, Donnie Midkiff of Berrien Springs; eight grandchildren - Sara, Taylor, Kalynn, Keefa, Keshawn, Matt, Brittney, and Kenny; a sister, Ruby (Orville) Kessinger of Eau Claire; many nieces and nephews and his faithful canine companion, Woody.

Pete was also preceded in death by a daughter, Lynn Marie Midkiff on April 6, 2010 and six sisters and seven brothers.
