Adrian De Mooy, 95, of Harbert, Michigan, died Sunday, July 1, 2012, at Royalton Manor in St Joseph, Michigan.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. EDT on Friday, July 6, at the Harbert Community Church with the Reverends Kyle and Lindsay Small officiating. The family will receive visitors prior to the service at the church from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, July 7, at 3:30 p.m. CDT at Forest Home Cemetery, Forest Park, Illinois.
Mr. De Mooy was born September 10, 1916, in Chicago, Illinois, to Adrian and Griet (nee Sterenberg) De Mooy. He attended Concordia Teachers College and earned his bachelor’s degree from Calvin College. He did graduate work at Northwestern University prior to serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a teacher and principal at New Troy High School and then was called back into service during the Korean Conflict. He returned to civilian life and worked for twenty-five years for General Motors at the Fisher Body plant in Willow Springs, Illinois, until he and his wife Claire retired in Harbert, Michigan, in 1985. Mr. De Mooy was a member of the Harbert Community Church and the First Presbyterian Church of North Palm Beach, Florida.
Survivors include his three daughters, Diane Vander Pol of Grand Rapids, Michigan; Adrienne (Michael) Sremba of Grand Rapids; Adele (Michael Leventhal) De Mooy of Chicago; grandchildren, Jonathan (Alexandra) Vander Pol, Matthew (Leighann) Sremba, Angela Sremba, and Kristin Sremba; a great-granddaughter Havana Rose Vander Pol; his many nieces and nephews and their children and grandchildren. Mr. De Mooy was preceded in death by his dear wife of 58 years, Claire, and by his parents and sisters Anne, Johanna, Crystine, and Helen.
